Is there a way to change the speed of the gathering chains and snapping rolls, or is there a way to somehow slow down the transmission in a WD?  It seems like the ground speed in 1st gear is too fast, or the snapping rolls and gathering chains are not going fast enough.  Any suggestions?

I would think the only way is to put smaller tires on the rear, ground clearance allowing, or some how get a slower gear ratio in the rear end if one was available. I have a mounted picker on a WC and luckily, actually unluckily, my corn was heavy enough to cause that problem for me. Hopefully next year.

if you have the proper amount of oil in the hand clutch resivior it wont hurt any thing to slip the hand clutch.

Our old WD has had the hand clutch slipped for years and years while picking corn.
It got slipped more hafter the tire size went from 12.4 to 13.6.
Find a WD45 and put picker on that one. First gear is slower.

Ya gotta remember when those pickers were made the PBA was only around  75, now yer in 150+ so the picker is not gonna like it, bout the only option is small rear tires and slip the hand clutch.

Just fiinished picking corn with my WD-45 with 13.6 tires in first gear and #33 mounted picker. Corn that was 30% moisture I had to slip the clutch at times, also stop if it was going to plug. In a different field that was dryer and better corn [ 150 bu/acre] I had no trouble. full throtle and first gear. The owner of the corn couldn't believe I could go that fast and not have trouble.
