    Posted: 18 Nov 2009 at 8:14pm
I'm rebuilding a Ross steering gear from a 1940 B. The levershaft seal appeared to be almost like a packing ring. It looks like there were three different ones used on the B over the years. Is this currently replaced with a lip seal, or is there a different current seal that's used for this application?  TIA

Many years ago I replaced the levershaft seals using ones "matched up" by Napa (same OD/ID...but thinner). Emoryed the seal surface of the shaft and installed two of the thinner ones. Worked great for the several years I had the tractor.

Greg, that's a good tip. I will do just that, thank you.
