Guys: Can a later AC 7000 Direct Injection Turbo be bolted into place where the original Buda 344 block was? The machine I am looking at with the dead 344 is a 1957.  I know the 7000 engine had the AC badge on it and came with a turbo at a later date.   

Will all the controls, throttle easily interchange? Any advice would be great.  Got our first frost last night.   Anyone on here down the swap?

I believe that some of the 7000 engines where hooked up to military generators.

hello  i just finished a repower with the 7000 series engine into a 1956 HD6. it went pretty smooth with the help from this forum. i got the engine from bob Kcgrain. had some clearance problems with the fan,oil filter,starter and hood. still working on those but it is running and working good. one nice dozer   Danny

Hi  Orangeman, We have successfully put a 7000 series engine into a HD6G highlift, a lot of work but it runs fine. We had to take Bosch injection pump off the original engine  and change the cam gear, the  7000 emgine had two gears with a smaller gear for the Stanadyne injection pump.  There was starter clearance problems with the turbo oil supply line, and also had to use shorter oil filter cannister. ]
We  purchased a military surplus engine which did run power generators in the service. We  changed all the parts from the old 6000 engine that we needed..
The old tractor runs good and has a lot of power. Have a good day. Superchief

Heya Chief, is your Bosch pump squirting fuel into the 7000 at the 6000 engine calibration (as you took it off a 6000). Also, where did you set your fuel timing? Manuals tell us to time loader engines at 32 degrees BTDC. A lot earlier than tractor/dozer setting of 28 degrees.    Mac

Hi Mac. We are using the original injection pump off the 6000 engine, we didn't change anything regarding fuel calibration. Set the timing at 32 degrees which is the same as was on the 6000 engine. Guys: Very good information.  Wish I could have got back sooner, but been on the road.  

Know if I could find a gen set 6000 or 7000 engine to put in for the old dead 344.

Hi Mac, I don't know if this will affect you or not, but we had to change to the original oil pan and change the sump screen because we have a hydraulic clutch. Also if you use the lower metal cover protecting the oil pan there is a clearance problem, particularily on the hilift model.  Have a good day, Superchief

I am rebuilding my HD6G with the original HD344 engine. The last rebuild I did was another HD6G with an AC 6000 engine. There are several improvements on the 6000 & 7000 engines that make the later engines better. The thing I particularly do not like about the HD344 is that the accesory drive belts drive off the crankshaft pulley so you have to remove the oil pump to change the v belts. I have been looking for new v belts for this engine without success for 2 months. I was unable to bend clasic "C section" belts into position.

I have an HD7G track loader looking for a good home. Location Allegany County, NY

Gates and Dayco make the correct belts for all the tractor dozers. I`m sure they will do them for loaders

The generic equivilent of the V belts are (2) CX56 and one CX48 These are cogged belts. The nearest cogged belts listed are CX57 and CX50
I have been unable to find anyone who can get them.

You know what guys, there is a lot of good information here.  I am thinking that if we put together a numeric list of changes that would be needed to put the 6000 or 7000 engine in place of the old tired 344's it would allow many HD6's to live on.  Superchief, Mactractor and Danny,  all had some good comments and ideas.  

Any other ideas, comments or suggestions are welcome.  Thank -you Orangeman

Boys, the correct v belts for the crawler engines are automotive A section. The angle of the V is different to that of industrial belts like B and C section. Any of those industrial belts that fit will drive everything ok, but because of the slightly different V angle, will premeturely wear your pulleys, and we know they aint dime a dozen. I will look up Gates or Dayco numbers and come back. I am sure the belts for 6G and 7G are the same as HD6 tractor dozer.     Mac

Numbers off HD6 tractors in my yard (fan belts);  Gates 20A 1295 (13/16 X 51).  Dayco 74349715  42-0399.  Water pump/generator belts are 15A (5/8) but cant read the length
