We are having some trouble with keeping the compressor belt on.  We have tried loosening and then tightening, but belt still either comes off or breaks.  We can't really tell what is happenig.  Does anyone have any idea that might help.  Thanks

I would ask, if the first belt that came off was it factory original? It's possible that over time it was replaced by a belt that may not be 'seating or riding' proper in the pully's. Or maybe at one time the compressor was replaced and that replacement may have the wrong width pully on it?  just a few thoughts that come to mind.
I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

Belt problems like that sound like harmonic balancer problems. Can't say that's what's going on but bad things happen when balancers are bad. That's a viscous damper  and can look fine from the outside but still be bad.First obvious thing to check is it running perfectly strait and true?

Replace the fluid filled vibration dampner......if you don't, you may have a broken crankshaft or broken main caps.....the air cond belt will be the least of your troubles.
