I do not know anything about lawn tractors and I have 3 acres to mow.  All I know is I have this big hunk of orange metal that starts and has a deck (without blades).  Does anyone live near NY/CT that would like to check it out and tinker around with it.  I will pay $35/hr + parts to just get it in tip top shape as it seems like a fun little toy (and I need to use it for the lawn anyhow).

Thanks!

I would suggest joining http://www.simpletractors.com/club2/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=7 (cost is $10 and will be will worth it) and post some pictures and ask your questions there.  There's nothing real complicated about the tractor and there are links to manuals there.

Good machine! I have two 716H's. Nice machines to work on. Not hard at all to service, and they are tough machines. That 712H should handle that 3 acre mow without a problem. Good luck! Hope you can hook with someone to get it whipped into shape so you can get mowing. With all the rain that's been around here for the past 10 days, I can't keep up with the mowing chores around here! The IB and my finish mower have been working OT...

Thank you all for your recommendations and feedback!  I love the thing and have actually been able to make simply repairs (wouldn't start - loose terminal connection, replaced broken blades on the deck).  Definitely seems like everything is relatively easy to access and fix assuming you can find parts.  She's a joy for sure
