I have a '59 series 1 D17 - the distributor is wandering all over the place, so I am going to spring for a rebuilt. I took a number off the Delco plate - does 2584 8E 6 make any sense? Part of it is really hard to read, I'm not sure if I have the whole number or if it is correct. I know someone has asked this question before but I can't find the post with the search thingy.
Appreciate any help.
thanks
Creek

I was at the local OReillys at lunch break, just thought I would check on pricing / availability. The 30 something guy behind the desk had to ask me how to spell Allis Chalmers. He said "what kind of car is that?". His shirt said asst mgr. Wow. Remember the good old days at parts stores, where the guys that worked there actually knew stuff?
cheers,

Thanks Captaindana, I'll look at that option. I think I fingered it out it should be 1112586. I must have missed the first 3 ones and misread the 6 as a 4. I'll try to clean it up better tonight.
cheers,
Creek

The way places are anymore, their workforce turnover is so fast, and the training so limited, that If it ain't "in the system", they can't do anything.
Back BEFORE computers... I had a guy in an outboard motor shop (actually, the shop OWNER) tell me once that the Evinrude Ski-Twin motor's parts were NLA... and when I told him to order me the "Commercial 40hp) bellcrank, and an ignition coil-pack, he raised hell, telling me they're 'not the same', blah blah, blah... Told him to order them anyway, and then he assured me that when I found out they were 'wrong', he wouldn't take 'em back. Made me sign a 'waiver' saying so. And they worked perfectly. Same engine. |

While we're on that subject, can anybody tell me how th get into the tach drive on one of those? I've got a tach, my cable seems to be good, but when I hook it up to the distributor, the tachometer never moves.
