How much does it cost to overhaul an injector pump for a 180?
How much does and exchange pump cost? Any shops to avoid because of poor workmanship or too expensive? My poor sweet Allis 180 starts well but does not develop any power and is slow to rev up. She does not reach full RPM on the tachometer. At first I thought it was not getting fuel. Drained and cleaned the tank. New filter. Clean filtered fuel added back to the tank. Confirmed there were no restrictions in the line to the pump. Allis and I await suggestions to make her well again. Thanks |

How is your air filter? A dirty one will have an effect on engine performance.

did you inspect the check ball on top of the pump that is in the fuel return line? That will cause problems like you describe.

I rebuild injection pumps for a living, and DB pumps run right around $500 - $550 in our shop. That does include the updated governor weight carrier that eliminates the failure prone flex ring. I am in IL, you can ups it to me if you cannot find someone close to you. By the way, if the check ball on top is getting plugged, then the ring is breaking apart and pump is in need of service. Knocking out the ball is only a temporary band aid that will allow you to move the tractor to a better spot to pull off the pump. Good luck, Ed.

I have not done a thing to the pump yet. Looks like the next step is to investigate the check ball. Hope I can do this away from the shop. The tractor is quite a distance from the shed.

yes you can take the return fitting out of the top of the pump, see if you can push ball with a small pointed object. If it is plugged up (I bet it is) that will cause the tractor to be down on power. If it is plugged, knock the ball and spring out, this will allow it to run a few hours to finish getting it home so you can service it properly. Good luck, Ed.
