Don - Norm's book says "In 1962 the 140 3 beater and 140S single beater, both power take off driven, expanded the line". They were built at at LaPorte, some were sold to others companies on an OEM basis and were replaced in the early 70's by the 281 and 299. Mike

If you are withing driving distance I would run that thing up to whatever it takes, can't be many of them around left especially with the factory slop gate on it, just please make sure it doesn't go to an iron buyer for $300. Operation "Save an Allis".

Thanks guys. I need to get Norm's book my old brain is not holding the dates like it used to. I had it in my head that the 140's where build in the 70's looks like I was thinking of the 281.
Matt, This one will not go to scrap! I might not get it but someone will know they had to pay for it! LOL
I'll let you guys know how I do.

Glad it didn't go to an iron buyer, it looked like a real good spreader yet.

I had family in town for the weekend and did my bidding on line for the spreader.
Yes it was a nice little spreader. Dustin you need to come over sometime I have hot and cold refreshments here all the time.
I think the 140 was worth that and then some but the on line bidding stopped on Friday at 6:00 PM so I didn't bid it past $700.00 that was as high I needed to go with all the new barn costs I'm looking at. lol
Harvey, That is a bad way to get the old 4020 out of here. Besides it's getting use to sitting next the the WD45's and someday I'll find something for it to do. lmao

Didnt get to go to the sale but dad was there, but I was figuring that the spreader would bring about $1500. Dad did say it was starting to rot on the rear end though and was going to need new wood. It looked real good in the picture for being as old as it was. Wish we could of got the 185 with out the loader, dad said it had perfect sheet metal and sounded pretty good.
