We are putting back together our Allis G and the manual calls for 30W transmission oil. We can't find a single parts dealer that knows what this is in our area. Since the manual was written 60 years ago much has changed and hopefully someone can help us find the right oil. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

30 wt non detergent oil?

I have been told that transmission oil is numbered differently than motor oil. I'm not sure if that is correct though.

they used  SAE#20 or SAE#30  back then but now i would use Universal tractor-hydraulic oil in any place that calls for the old oils.
 Transmission oil started at 70 weight or so / Gear oils are now called GL series oils.
 
Oils are rated by weight using the SSU formula of so much passage through a certain size opening at a controlled temp. and measured in seconds to pass a certain volume.
