 Topic: clip or no clip on float needle ?

My parts are on the way for the wd-45 that stalls under load. I am going to put a float needle and seat in as well. I read before not to use the supplied clip. Opinions. Thanks again for helping me out. Mike

does this wd-45 have a paper filter mine would miss and stall i took it out and it fixed it

I would think with the clip on, the weight of the float will help pull the needle down if it was wanting to stick any.

Personaly Ive never seen a problem fixed by installing one
But neither have a seen a problem fixed by removing one.

I would put the clip in if it were mine. That way you know for sure it's not going to stick.

I finally got to the cabin today to work on the wd-45. Off I went with my bag of parts. I had soaked the carb in solvent, new load valve and new float, needle and seat. I drained the tank and removed the sediment bowl assembly. Checked the tank. No rust as expected, one sliver of grass I think. Was going to run the tube into the tank but thought better of it. Put a screen in instead. No water in gas. Hooked everything up and started it. Ran terrible, could not adjust carb. Shut off and gas poured out the carb. Took carb apart again and checked the float setting. What I ended up doing was reseting the float needle valve and bending the float a little. Seems to work ok after fine tuning the carb. Why does my float not want to shut off the gas? This has happened before. Sorry about the length but this what I did to my tractor. Plowed snow for an hour afterwords. Thanks again for all the help. When I get my C home I sure I will be begging for help again. Mike

Gas pouring out with the engine not running problems could be: foreign object preventing the needle from closing on it's seat, a float that has fuel inside it or level adjusted too high, a float contacting the side of the bowl so it can't move and shut off the fuel flow. These are what comes to mind right off. There could be other things though. If it were mine, I'd get a new sediment bowl and make a new line from the bowl to the carb. My CA gave me a bunch of carb grief until I made a new line. Old crusty fuel deposits in the line kept clogging things up. If you know for certain the level is set correctly, make sure there isn't any gas inside it. If the float is full, it will sink.

Its a new float and the gas had no junk whatsoever in it when I drained the tank. Can the float hang up on the side of the carb at all?

If it were bent it could. Did you check the level when you put the float in, or did you just put it in there?

I checked the level with a 1/4 drill bit quite a few times. I never have had much luck with floats.

Worked on a WC one time that had a float that the pontoons were sunk in (like you pinched in). Put a new float in and that cured it.

I always use the clips supplied with the kits. I believe they help keep the needle from sticking. Setting the float level properly is critical also to preventing leaking.
