I like the original Series, D14 and D17 just because we had those on the farm and so I have a soft spot for PO#1 grill, old style decals, etc. Certainly the later series had nice improvements, no argument there.

D17 diesel series 1. Would love to have more, but...
I'd have to say I used to think the series 3 and 4 were the nicest looking, but the original series 1 has been growing on me.

D17 series I - early mesh grill, gas, wide front w/PS
D17 series I - late bar grill. gas, wide front w/PS
D17 series II - gas, narrow front w/PS going to have a 170 picker on it
D17 series IV - gas, wide front w/PS and factory 3pt. (My favorite)
D19 - diesel, wide front w/PS and factory 3pt
Eventually I'll get a series III and start looking for 170 thru 175s.

As of now we have got a '57 D-14, '58 D-17, and a '63 D-19, and still looking for that D-21. I would say the D-17 was the best of the D series, but the D-14 was also a great tractor, grandpa bought one new in 1957 and it is still in the family, but not the one I mentioned above.

never owned a D series until just a few yrs ago & they tend to grow on you. 1st was a D14 ( my caravan tractor ) then series II D 17 my work horse, then a high clearance series IV D17D ( needs total restore), then D12 (have engine out in garage to rebuild) then my I40 (industrial D10). the I 40 is probably the most fun to play with around the yard. Kinda light for loader work but still alot of fun for garden & yard work .

Sorry Beeman, I do not consider the ED40 part of the D series. Sheet metal looks similar, but that is it. Good luck trying to find parts for yours - very tough to find.

Howdy,
All you D series collectors, I have a NOS front grill for D17, 2,3,4 and also fits D19. It still has the AC tag on it. I brought it from an AC dealer long ago for my D15 but checked the nos # on it and fits above not my D15. $350.00 Tomorrow will be on ebay. Last week one sold for $362.00

Didn't think I was a D series collector until out of 6 tractors, I have a D15, D17 series 4, and a D19. Might want to start collecting one of the others as well, as I do love each one of the D series that I have so far. All of mine are gas.

DUSTINMO, I know of a 262 taken out of a D19D that a fella swapped in a Cummins. It was complete when viewed on the shop floor last year and the only thing said was that it was "tired". PM me and I can check on it as I need to get my D15IIP into the same shop for retrofit of a #9 loader this winter; this shop is in Stephenville, Texas.
