Off Color - DMI Tiger 2 ?

   We are thinking of buying a DMI Tiger 2 to try to break up some of our hardpan soils.  We chisel periodically, but want to try something more aggressive.  We have clay but no rocks to speak of.  Has anyone every used one/heard coffee shop talk about whether or not I would like it?  The guy selling it says it makes a difference, but you know how that goes.  Any opinions are appreciated.  Price ranges in your area?

	I've got a neighbor who has a tiger 2 and really likes it. They rip about a third of their acres every year. We use a 3pt. JD unit. This year as dry as it was in our area any ripping worked real well. Can't help on price, but you would'nt be disapointed with the results. Good luck.

	I have a BlueJet Tillage Pro and have 7 shanks with 2" points @ 20" centers. Can also set it up with 5 shanks @ 30". There is a disc front and rear. I work my wheat stubble with it. Works best when it dry. Be careful not to over do it and break up all the natural soil capileries. I like to leave some undisturbered soil to carry the equipment. It takes POWER if you run deep. It'll used more than 200 hp. with 7 shanks and 2" points 12" deep. I molboard plow corn stocks, notill wheat into bean stubble and deep till wheat stubble. Everything once every three years.

	The guys I work for have an Econo Tiger (I think that is what it is). It has 5 rippers with about 3" points with 5 or 6" wings and 4 smaller shanks with 2" points with 3 or 4" wings. They seem to really like it for breaking up the hard pans, but as dry as it's been this year, it's pulling insanely hard. I had their JD 8520 with duals all around on it, and I was pulling about 40% slip at 2-3 mph going 11 - 13" deep (big clods). I switched to their Cat 75E and could manage 12% slip at 4.5 mph. The points wear fast when it's pulling that hard, but the machine doesn't seem to mind otherwise. I'd look on fastline or tractorhouse for price ranges.

	Just went to an auction in Iowa last week that had a 5 shank sell for $7000 and a 7 shank go for $4250. 2 years ago there was a 7 shank in S. MN that went for $15000. All were in very good shape. Brother has a 280hp Versatile and a 7 shank is a bit to much for it in hills and clay soil.
