7040 oil transfer

   I am working on a 7040 that is transferring oil from transmission to rear end. I have replaced the pump drive seal and the seal between the pumps. I have replaced the the pumps from a different tractor and still transferring. The door on the filter housing is opening 8mm. It will go about 3 miles before all the oil is in the rear end. I have the lines off the steering pump and transmission full of diesel and no leaks coming out of steering pump when sitting.

	Lots of questions. It came to you doing this, correct ?? And how long has it been doing this??? I assume not since 1975 ?? Are you using genuine AGCO hydraulic filters (2) ?? I question whether any of the hydraulic lines/hoses are crossed ?? If it does the transfer in 8 minutes while roading it, does the same thing happen when sitting still at full throttle for 8 minutes ?? That would be nice to know. The shaft seal between the trans (gerotor) pump and the steering gear pump must be installed with the shaft splines wrapped with ONE layer of black electrical tape in a barber pole fashion. When oiled, this tape protects the seals rubber lip from being cut when sliding it onto the shaft. Both pumps must have good bushings and be in overall good condition. That seal has been installed backwards before and I think you should consider doing that. So, spring towards the rear. An 8 minute transfer sounds suspicious to me. I had a 7080 some 45 years ago that went the other way (rear to front) when reading and the top PTO shaft seal was in backwards (by some other dealership).

	I vote with Doc on the hyd hoses crossed. We have see seals blown and it takes several hours to pump the almost 10 gallons you are talking about. We have seen 2 units in the last 2 years that have the cooler hoses crossed and thus pumping at full flow the tranny to the hyd rear side.

	I know on my 7020 gas passer I crossed the hoses when the new engine went in.Bless you Doctor for getting me to check. Problem solved.
