The 2016 Chevy truck I bought didn’t come with a spare.
Locally I’ve found a Nissan titan 20” spare tire and wheel and a 2005 Chevy 1500 4x4 16”wheel and tire . Does anyone know if these would work? I’m told the Chevy 16” might not clear the brakes. I know the Nissan is the same bolt pattern but not sure on the center hole. I have to go to Colorado for a funeral this coming weekend. |

I guess you have checked with the local salvage yards. Seems like there would be an abundance of wheels for an eight year old truck. Maybe Ole Joe could locate one somewhere.

I have t yet Hubert. Trying to find something before my trip. My hours and the salvage yards hours don’t work out. I may hit a couple on the way. Was actually planning on leaving Thursday after work and returning Sunday so that might not work either. |

I spent 22 years owning a tire shop. Anything on your truck will be SAE. Anything on the other will be metric. That includes the bolt pattern on the rims. Those rims to fit your truck are a dime a dozen. Go to a salvage yard and get the correct tire and rim.

Look at the sticker on the edge of the Drivers Door to get the original tire size from the Factory in 2016. It is probably 255 / 70 R17, a Metric size. I think Metric Tire Sizing has been around since the 70's. G |

The funeral has been postponed due to blizzard conditions.
I can’t make the new date. I’ll have time to get a proper spare now. |

Hey Thad,,,talk to "David" at that yard by Cassville. He had a stack of tires for spares and I even found one that had the same alloy wheel that the red truck had. He charged me $30 for that spare with a good tire mounted and ready to go.

Can’t catch them on Saturday anymore. I can’t understand why salvage yards are closed on Saturday??? |

Closing Saturdays as NO HELP anymore.
A secondary thought, check Date Codes on those look great tires when buy from a 'Yard', anything over 6-8 years old will work a short duration as a spare, do NOT rely on these to be absolutely safe. I replace RELIGIOUSLY all tires over 8 years old on my machines that I rely upon, even as tread looks great. Blown and seen blown many 'Great Appearance' Tires that were age hardened and would not release heat.

Good point. When I bought my yellow Ford Work truck it had 4 new looking coopers 10 ply. Threw tread on one on the way home. They were outdated. |

Well, you HAVE a salvage yard. We had two here once upon a time. One completely closed up and demolished the buildings. The other takes in vehicles but no parts to salvage anymore

Bought a spare today. Exact same wheel as my truck with dated tire of same size.
Tire has a date code of 5118 making it near outdated. It will get me by for now. I think I’ll buy a new tire just like what’s on the truck. Hope it fits up under the truck. I hoped for a steel wheel spare type tire and wheel. |

I think the date code on tires means less on a spare that doesn't see the sunlight the same as the in-service ones. (even better if your vehicle stores the spare inside undercover).
I've got a spare for our trailer that predates the 4 digit code & from what I can tell is either from '86 or '96, more likely '86 if I'm honest. That old Conti still has the "tits" on it and has never seen the road, no cracking at all & can still leave an imprint with my thumbnail in the rubber. I will say brand/quality makes a difference, I'd trust that spare further than a 10 year old linglong dingdong casing any day. Probably makes a good difference being in the UK where we don't see as much extended or intense UV exposure, but still surprises me how well they can keep if they're underslung as a spare.

I bought a new truck in 2016. Was going on a trip in 2018 and thought maybe I should make sure the spare was ok. It had never been used and was flat, started to air it up and it was full of cracks from dry rot. 2 year old Good Year.
