Chalmers released an Industrial Version with a Loader and some included a backhoe as well. Did any of the D17 Series IV tractors either Ag. or Industrial come with an option of a 10x16 rim to take an 11L x 16 tire? I could see a benefit of the wider rim particularly for any of the tractors equipped with loader to better carry the dead load of the loader and material in the bucket.
So far my searching has yet to show any 17's equipped with a wider 10" rim. Most all photos on the net show the narrow 6" rim with 6.50 or 7.50 x 16 tires mounted on the rim. While a rim and insert can be machined to work, am wondering if Allis equipped the wider rim on any of the 17's. Thanks in Advance for any insights! ~ Orangeman

I cannot confirm about
D17 IV's but i have had 2 D17 series III industrials. Both had 7:50 x16 on the front. One was a diesel backhoe and loader. It had 16.9x 28 on the back. It has been sold. The other is a Gas with loader and shuttle. It has 18.4x 26 on the rear. And It is for sale. Larger tires on the front would definitely be beneficial.... |

MR ~ Thanks for the insights! 7.50 x 16 looks like it was the standard tire for the D17 throughout its life. It seems like if Allis intended the 17 to take on Industrial duties particularly with the loader that engineering would have called for a wider tire and rim. ~ Orangeman

I use wider front tires even on my ag tractors....
Less damage to hay fields on the turns and better ride over rough terrain. And they look cool too ! Edited by Macon Rounds - 28 Jul 2024 at 10:30pm |
