I flipped pto from 1000 to 540 on a new to me 8030 and found the 540 shaft face and mounting holes have damage. Gaulding around mounting face, a broken tap in one of the holes and gaulding build up inside mounting holes.

I have not done any pto work with tractor yet and have no idea how old this issue is.

Currently removing gauld buildup and attempting to clean up and chase the threads in bolt holes.

I would assume the 540 shaft walked out and came in contact with pto stub

Is there any way to check pto shafts end play without draining oil and dropping rear plate?

Bolt the Dual PTO shaft back on using ALL the bolts and grab the end of the PTO shaft and push/pull/up/down to check for excessive endplay.

PTO seems secure, I'll be testing with 540 and 1000 implements before it gets put into any heavy service.

Thanks for the info

We have seen this a couple of time due to customer flipping the shaft and USING THE SAME HOLES - they said "some of the holes didn't line up  so we 'wallowed the holes' a tad.  Then the damn thing got hot." Duh,,,
When told "it's not the money,it's the principle", remember, it's always the money..
