We have a 1976 7040 with the powershift transmission. The transmission engages fine on level ground or when driving uphill. When we go downhill it’s like the clutch gets pushed in & it goes into neutral until you reach level ground again. At that point it re-engages & begins to drive again. We took off the powershift valve & that appears to be ok. Any other places/things to check out?
