Needing a new shifter boot for my D17. Any recommendations on who buy from? I've heard rumors that most are poor quality now days. Does someone sell one that is better than the rest. One that won't crack within a year.
I buy most of my parts from DJS or All State Ag Parts. Edited by truckerfarmer - 09 Nov 2023 at 6:17am |

I know what you mean about the quality. Seems like some of the rubber is "dry" even when it is brand new. The one on my WD-45 lasted about 8 years (don't remember where I got it) before it started to split. I got a new one and soaked it in trans/hyd oil for a couple of weeks to see if I could get the rubber to soak up some of the oil. Don't think I hurt anything by doing so.

I got mine from OKTractor in Ok. D-15, and still good after over 10 years. See Forum 'Parts and Services' for link. G |

. Sunlight UV is harsh on the rubber. My Ferguson TO35 boots got a second boot deflector (tie rod boot hats) when I buttoned everything back up after repairs from water getting passed the old split shifter boots. May not be authentic but adding a sacrificial cover may improve longevity. .

I made a shifter boot out of leather for my D17. Used the factory clamp at the top and a zip tie at the bottom to hold it on. Worked good for me so far.

A poor condition shifter boot is sometimes the death of a good transmission from rain water getting into the oil and then dirt.
