Question, what am I missing. Put new points and plugs in my CA. Now on morning it will not start, the next it will start but sounds like it is not firing on all cylinders. Have re gapped the points several times. Still get the same results.

Marked the distributor before we took it off, but will check just in case.

If the rotor wires are right... then i would relook at the POINT and CONDENSER wires and the terminal inside.. should be insulated and nothing touching ground.... and maybe try another condener.

I was thinking about picking up a new condenser. But wanted to make sure I was not missing anything. Some times the simplest things are what get you.

Make sure the spark plugs didn't get fouled from trying to start the Tractor. Sometimes, if the plugs are wet or fouled enough, they won't fire. If you have Champion plugs in it, take them out, throw em' away and put a real set of plugs in it like NGK's or Autolites. Ya never know, it might just fire right up for ya.! I've seen it many, many times over the years whether its a car, truck or tractor..... HTH Steve@B&B

I can't remember what brand plugs are in my CA. Anyone have the Autolite number handy? And where is the best place/brand to get new plug wires? And one last question, if I decide to stay with points and not convert to electronic, where is the best place/brand for a new coil just so I know everything is new again. Mine starts immediately and runs good other than it has a random, miss/pop at higher RPM's.

For engines that have some time on them, and have a little oil control issue due to wear, I always suggest using the 295 Autolites. They are a little warmer. For fresh built engines, or low hour engines. the cooler 303's work fine. Steve@B&B
