I bought off auction 2 JM 385 bu grain wagons. Like to pull with 7060 to elevator. Rears are 18.4 Both wagons have rear surge brakes. Slight up and down hill to navigate. Question is:should I put fluid in rears and/or put the duals on. Tractor has 600 lbs up front.

Dad didn't have any trouble with single 600 bu wagons.  No fluid but had one of the big cast inner weights on each side.  No duals either.

I pull 2 400 bushel wagons with brakes with my 8050. would hate to try it without brakes and lights. No duals and 2 inner weights.
7060 with the roosa master pump would start them going easer than my 8050.

What Doc said. I run on flat ground but there was a time once I came across some ice and had no duals. Wont do that again. It also has a power shift. Much nicer for starting out.

Make sure the brakes on wagons work!
It’s one thing for them to have brakes, it’s another for them to actually work.
I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

Thanks for replays. I thought some fluid would help tractor stick and duals more stability. I'm not going to load wagons first time around. Get a feel what it can handle.

Diddo what others have shared. Be safe & plan ahead. Try checking to see if duals will clear elevator’s drive-thru pit weather enclosure door width? And also check that duals are not be too wide for scale?

If wagons have semi wheels (22.5”), your 7060 will easily pull them, versus smaller 15” or 16” floatations. Although 22.5” will not slow wagons as fast as floatations.

Two good tractor mirrors that extend enough to show around sides of wagons are equally important too. Good to check upcoming traffic AND,,, allows driver to easily check all 8 tires at any given time, versus just looking at one side 4 wheels during inside cornering!!

15mph max speed? Lot depends on routes taken. Any two lane highway &/or Township 2 lane road traffic, then wagons should have tail lights, turn signals, SMV emblem, & strobe up high for 60 mph loaded semi trucks to see from quarter mile away.

Somewhere on each wagon, mount a spare wheel. Also carry 4-5 4x6 x 10~12” long treated lumber wooden blocks, a 12 ton minimum hydraulic Jack, & breaker bar wheel lug wrench.
Use wooden blocks to assist a wheel change &/or as wheel chock during wheel change or any unhooked full wagon awaiting scale/pit dump during a ONE WAGON at a time approach at elevator. Some elevator pits are ridiculously elevated making it a challenge for tractor to traction two fully loaded wagons upward onto pit. Worse yet,,, after 1st wagon is emptied, loaded weight of 2nd wagon can easily push/damage (Jack-knife?) 1st wagon if pit exit is either a downward ramp &/or curve??

Points well taken! AC. Duals will fit scale and pit. Level pit once up there , but kinda steep approach to it.. I didn't think about unhooking wagon if needed. I won't drive over 10 to 11 mph to be honest. Pretty much straight shot to elevator with a little hill to navigate. 4 to 5 miles one way.

Yes 10-11 mph will aid in many aspects. Your 7060 will do fine. Biggest challenge for 7060 will be your ability to roll~ shift PD. Most elevators offer a truck parking area(s) (for tarping) that can make excellent places to unhook & park full back wagon for a one wagon approach. One wagon is a One Focus tactic for both driver& elevator employees cause it removes stress out of concerns over scales, grain probing, pit area, & any potential damaging situations. After 1st wagon has been weighed empty, then unhook it back by the 2nd full. Switch wagons & do it again. If this parking area is level then hooking up empty is usually no problem. If 385 is bushel capacity, then math says content weighs 22-24,000 lbs, plus empty wagon weight of 3-4,000lbs. That’s a load of potential mass that can roll away, so chock wheels ~ empty or full.

One more thing- try to use hitch pins 7/8” or 1” that more closely fit hitch hole diameters during road transport. They minimize jerky hitch slack that your 7060’s PD & drawbar will appreciate.
In contrast, a smaller 3/4” hitch pin diameter is real handy at elevator to coax (wiggle room for aligning holes) during hooking up full wagon hitch.

I've pulled 2 350bu wagons behind a JD 4430 with no duals or fluid and it did fine. Not too many hills but I was never nervous driving it. If it's soft it doens't want to pull them in the field very well.

Take one wagon for the first trip. Then add the second wagon with increasing loads if you have any concerns.

Will definitely use biggest hitch pin can fit. I agree, getting up on pit will have to see, its gravel. Smaller pin if have to unhook good idea.

Dave, guy that helps me and vice versa, has 4430. I pulled 2 300 bu with it for him and it pulled fine. He did have fluid. Quad trans was nice though for getting going.

I'd put the 20.8's on and load the rears and forget the duals. You will not have an issue this way.   My first 8070 had 20.8 and 3 sets of inner weights, pulled 850 bu plus to town many times.   Bought another j&m 350 last fall so now there's a pair of them behind the other 8070 and the 525 killbros behind the 7045.

I pull 350 Demco's no problem with a White 2-135. Taking off is a bit of a pain without a powershift. My son can double clutch from 4th to 6th without grinding. I can't. Use the biggest pin you can on the front wagon. Everything is pulling on that pin.

The duals I would like to do without. I guess different ways getting to same result. Pulling 850 bu, I couldn't imagine. Last year used my 7045 with no front weight and spray tires on rear with 2 wagons at 575 bu and it handled no problem.

Interesting on double clutching a power direct. I never knew such a thing. My 7045 also has PD and that is always the challenge pulling with it. Next time in tractor, might give it a try.

Some very good thoughtful advice in this thread, and I'm not even hauling grain like that.

I'd vote for weights, iron or fluid, and no duals.

If going up any hills, hug the centerline because if it looks like any more than a car tire width seems clear we had people pass us going up hills. No visibility for people doing that, yet they did it.

will duals fit inside the elevator dump pit area? I know they will hang out the sides of the scale. I used to pull 350 bu with a Chev Malibu station wagon, no brakes on the wagon. never had a problem except with DOT! lol

Follow up: Been busy with harvest , but thanks all who replied. So I stayed with my 18.4 , put fluid in, added my duals, fits scale, pit level once on, added full front weight, I keep bumping up bushel, last was 650, tractor handled fine, went 5th no PD. Next will do 700 bu. The incline it works tractor a bit , but not that hard. Level ground runs fine.
