My Son-in-law purchased a ripper mount for his HD5G, we will need to fabricate a tool bar for it but he knew this when he bought it.

What we are wondering though is it looks like there possibly should be something that attaches to the lower end of the ripper mount and then attaches to the drawbar pull-point underneath the tractor. Is this correct? Does anyone have any pictures or drawings of this?

Not sure on the 5, but the 7G had no link to the draw bar mount area. I remember this because it's a lot easier getting under the machine without that draw bar hanging there. It does however provide some skid plate effect back there.

yes there are 2 long pieces that pin into the drawbar hole and got to each side with a flat end that bolts into the bottom 4 bolts behind the bottom pin.  i will try to get a picture when i get home.

thats interesting.  someone has mounted the ripper bar to the original drawbar setup and cut the cylinder mount out of the main plate and bolted on and welded support straps.    It doesnt look like the drawbar is still intact as the hitch is welded to swing plate and there would be no provision to mount the pull links on either side to the original swinging drawbar hanger.  So all the pulling force and downforce from cylinder is concentrated on the swinging drawbar hanger bolts!!  looks like it would work but definitely not as stout as the oem setup.

By the look of it I would fabricate a plate for drawbar to set onto and support it by using the pin holes on mount to hold drawbar when ripper is removed .

Confused  well perhaps i didnt fully read the original post,  i thought you were just asking about the pull brackets underneath.  the ripperbar wont be difficult to build.  i would definitely get some shanks that pin on top or build your own,  not a fan of the oem wedge system.

Sorry about that Cal, I did not specify in the original post where we got the mount. I have never seen the OEM style, thanks for the tip about using a pin-on style.

Building a toolbar is just time, materials, and burning rod Tongue Do you think 1/2" thick wall is adequate?

i believe oem is 1/2 fabbed box.  I can get some closeup shots of my toolbar to help.

Zimmerman Tractor in Missouri has a complete single-cyl ripper setup for $1000. If I recall, it has one large shank. Didn't ask if it comes with the diverter valve.

   Lost my thought there. They may have the proper linkage pieces you need as they have parts of a dozen or more 5-6-7 G's.

We have acquired a tool bar for the HD5G but are still in need of the two bars that connect the ripper mount to the pull point underneath the tractor.

I have attempted to contact Zimmerman but no reply yet. If anyone has one for sale let me know.

Was looking and seen a post on unit mounted on HD6 (same rear housing as HD5) where cylinder was hitting fuel tank when raised . Person was wondering on fix for that problem . So evidently either cylinder changed or trunnion mount changed .
 Using a ripper on a HD5G or HD6G it seems would not be heavy enough counter weight for loader use .

I mounted a ripper on my 6g and it definitely helped over just a drawbar setup.  im guessing 8-900lbs bolted on back there.  I have new bucket teeth and can really load up too

Back of my HD5G I have 2 large weights on machine - seen some early machines that had single thin weight , it seems a lot had none , and common problem was bent track frame or bad front idler . Counterweight is needed with a loader bucket .

Yes, counterweight is definitely needed. The toolbar we have has two cast iron weights on it, not sure what it weighs though. I will post pictures when we get it mounted.

Question: How deep do the rippers on an HD5G go?

We have the 'new' toolbar mounted; it originally was on a Case 1050 so I had to modify the pivot pin setup on the Allis-Chalmers mounting plate. We will be using the Allis cylinder, and I need to fabricate the attachment point on the toolbar.

My inclination is to position the toolbar in its lowest setting and then fabricate the attachment point with the cylinder fully extended, and let the 'raised' position be whatever it happens to end up. Is this a reasonable plan, or am I overlooking something critical?
