What's the best thing to do with the older CA, WD, 50-series etc. plows if you are going to put one to work? All of the ones I have encountered out this way have 325 bottoms, and you can't find many new parts for them. Both the CA-52 and Snap Coupler model 53 plows I have show some wear, and I do have some rocks around here.

Can a guy convert these to 387 bottoms? It looks like you can still get some aftermarket parts for those.

Or, are you better off trying to convert to some other brand, with bottoms that maybe have even more aftermarkets parts available? (some IH or JD bottom, for example)

I'd be curious to know what some of you in a similar situation have done. Thanks in advance.

All of the Allis Chalmers bottom assemblies are interchangeable, the bolt pattern to the beam is the same on all. You need everything including the frog. Finding complete NOS bottom assemblies might be difficult and used is almost always worn beyond practical use. I've seen many plows with frogs worn so bad the the bolt holes for the shares are worn through.
If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits.

I redrilled my frogs to accept 387 shares. Then I bought a bunch of 897 shares becasue you know they will also be discontinues at some point.

I use ploworx. They can recondition just about any plow part if they don't have the replacement.  I miss the old warehouse in Iowa (bleimers?) they had everything imaginable but they have been closed for a decade at this point

Wjohn, those 50 series plows are hard to find parts for. I have several 53's with good parts on them but think mine all have No. 24 bottoms. when you get into the 60 series, parts are somewhat available. Have bought shares for, (I believe) 363 bottoms from Dave the plowman. I could use a couple more and some shins too if I run into him in the future.

Thanks for the different ideas. Sounds like I have a few options. I can probably get by with what is on the plow for the little plowing I may do in the next few years, but at some point I'd like to switch to something where I can replace with new parts as needed.
