Have to pull the intake manifold off my 6080 to fix the previous owners obsession with broken bolts and RTV. It does not have the intake heaters, just ether injection which is unhooked. My question is how effective are the intake heaters on these, and if its worth the hassle of installing a pair. New heaters from Agco are $100 a piece, but it looks like the Champion CH3 would work for $20 a piece.

The champion heater is 18x1.5mm, 58mm long, and 385 watts so 770w a pair.

I added one to our 6060 that came out of a 185. 30 seconds and it will start. Before you had to plug it in when under 50 degrees.
The 180/185/190/200 are all the same and fit the 6000 series.

I would add it, along with a gear reduction starter if it starts hard cold. It is the same starter a 185 uses

Question, what do you mean a "Pair" of heaters? Only one is used that I am aware of.

On the 6080 air heaters were installed into the intercooler, I believe one was standard and two was optional. The 6060/6070 air heater was installed in the big plug hole on the intake manifold as shown in your picture.

Dr is 275464 kit. It’s at bottom of page of engine wiring. I assume it’s intake heater kit

I installed a set in a fresh rebuild 6080 and could get it to start At 21 degree holding the heater for 20 cranking a few rounds then another 15 seconds, eBay has the Champion CH48 that is the same for Cummins engines in the military truck s for about 20 each

AGCO used to sell a complete kit for adding manifold heaters.  It had everything:  elements, wiring, switch and even decals for the dash.  Call your local dealer.

I still don't get the concept of 2 heaters on this engine . M F2 has the spark plug heater in bottom of intake like my 220. Where/how are 2 heaters applied on 433's.

They are on the underside of the manifold, near the outer ends.  The only thing I can think of is 1 element serves 2 cylinders - would be more efficient.

So there must be some plug/holes in bottom  of manifold near outer ends? Difficult to see on my combine engine. My F2 has  the plug heater in manifold but not hooked up. It has ether injector  which runs off solenoid that looks like same solenoid as 220 has for it's manifold heater. I wonder how it came out of factory. It's possible someone added/switched it from manifold heater to ether injection. Have to look in manual and see if it addresses either.

On the 6080/433I the intercooler has 3 plugs on the bottom, one in the front and 2 on the rear corners.

I ordered a pair of Champion CH3's for $40. Assuming they fit i'll just remove the ether system and use the factory wiring as a trigger for a 100 amp solenoid.

It's Big on my 220. Maybe heavy insulation but at least 10 ga?

Pretty sure Charlie and I used 10 ga on the 6060. 8 ga would be even better. As Charlie said it starts very well with it although if I have the extra time I still prefer the block heater. Much easier on the engine if it’s warm first.

I'll get some pictures later but got the CH3's installed and wired. Used a 200 amp relay bolted in place of the ether assembly, ran a 8ga wire from the starter power post to the relay, and a 10ga wire to each heater plug. Used the ether power wire as the trigger for the relay. Also added a gear reduction starter, sitting in the 60* shop it starts way easier than it ever has.

Big test will come next week when its in the teens and parked outside hooked to the manure spreader. Unfortunately somebody broke the pins off the block heater so i can't plug it in. Looks like a magnetic or in-hose heater will be my only option with how the block heater is configured on this.

If you are going to do a lot of cold weather starting, I would suggest installing a tank type block heater. Be kinder to the engine. There has to be a way to plumb it in. Keep it below water line so it won't burn out. Run engine till warmed up(all air purged) before trying it out.

Another cold weather starting aid is using 10W-30 diesel engine oil. The ability of the starter to turn the engine over much easier comes from switching from 15W-40 or straight 30 to 10W-30. You will not believe the difference !!

Forgive me for hi jacking this thread, but we are getting a 426 ready to put into our 645 payloader. Is it doable to put a manifold heater in, in place of the plug on the underside of the intake manifold? It appears to be like 1 1/4 inch pipe threads. Thanks

At some point i plan to either fix the factory block heater or get a circulating heater and tie it in somewhere, i imagine it'd work alright hooking it into the intercooler lines.

As for oil we run 5w-40 full synthetic in the 6080 and most of our diesel equipment. Generally allows us to stretch them out to one oil change per year, and living in Ohio it helps out quite a bit in the winter.

Put block heater in and get it over with.   Plug it in a hour or two ahead of time and it will start like it T shirt weather. If they are NLA a GOOD PARTSMAN will get you an aftermarket one.   Can’t believe how complicated some folks make things.
