    Posted: 29 Sep 2010 at 1:11pm
I am new to the farming / food plot arena and was wondering if I should buy an 8'  field cultivator that is for sale for $150.  I have a WD45, disc, brush hog, 2 bottom trip plow and ATV cultipacker and disc.  I am wondering in what situation one uses a field cultivator rather than a disc or plow?  I have 80 acres and about 1/2 of it will be tilled annually, mostly forage type crops but would like to do corn and soybeans when I get the ground ph up.  I am thinking that I could use it for something just not sure what ... if nothing else I guess it would give me something else to play with.  Any enlightenment would be appreciated!

A disc will cause more compaction than an FC. If your combine has a chopper then the FC will work great over bean stubble but I used a disc in corn stalks.
