I have always used 15-40 diesel oil in all of my diesels.
Looking at the book on my 7000 it clearly states "Do Not use multi-viscosity oils in Allis Chalmers diesel engines".
Is that still the thinking today or was that a 70's thing? Thank you.

The book was printed before 15W-40 was invented. They don't re-write the books for older equipment. 15W-40 was standard factory fill by 1977 or 78 in all A-C engines.
