I'd go out on a limb and say 95% of any transmission problems with a 180/185 are due to gears being ground to a pulp when shifting, or run out of oil from a leaking PTO shaft seal.

Thanks for the Information. I knew they were more rugged than a D17. Just didn't know you much. They are a very rugged designed tractor I do know that. Our 180 Diesel is going on 12000 hours. All original engine transmission and rear end.

When I got my roller One Eighty puller- had Agent Orange - on the side, suppoedly it had a 4 turbo setup on it ? Dunno that is true , but pulled the final drives to redrill them and the axle splines had a quarter twist in them , never broke but sure were in a bind somewhere !

A lot. You think that rear end is just a D-17 S4 or 170 but it isn't. They've stuffed a complete 190/190XT transmission inside that rear end case. The axle tubes are much heavier and bull gears twice as wide.

I have always wondered how much heavier their rear ends were compared to the D17. Thank you.
