That is a gardentractor that AC built for a few years that  were not built that good and never sold very well either , so they had Simplicity make them again.

I believe it is a 300 series. http://www.simpletractors.com/models/300_series/1971_flyer.htm

Probably a 310 or 312, the 314 would have had a larger air cleaner can.

If they didn't sell well it was more because of the looks. They are very heavy. They do use a Simplicity bevel gear box and transmission.  If you read the history section at Simpletractors it will explain more about the history of these models.  I have a 416H, its a little bit harder to work on than the Simplicity built models (more like working on a deere.) Other than that its a stout machine.

The three and four hundred series lawn tractors were made in Georgia, I think by Roper, while Allis went through an anti-trust lawsuit about Allis's acquisition of Simplicity.  Allis won the case, and Simplicity again built the Allis tractors.
Most problems can be solved with the proper application of high explosives.
