My FIL's AC 170 has what we believe an issue with the fan.  After running for only 15-20mins the fan starts to run at an irregular pace.  Slow than fast with no particular pattern.  Any suggestions on where to start looking for a solution would be greatly appreciated.  Also, is it worth buying the service manual off the internet?  I found places where you could buy them or download them.  Obviously I am not mechanically inclined due to my description of the issue above, so I appreciate all feedback and advice.  Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

The fan is belt driven - make sure the belt is in good condition and has proper tension on it.  You might also want to check the water pump shaft (which the fit mounts to) for excessive play - movement front to back of tractor.  If it's worn, replace the water pump.  There is not really much else to check for a mechanically driven fan like this.

Hope this helps.

DSeries,
Thanks for the advice.  I appreciate it.  We'll start looking there.  Does anyone have a parts department they recommend?
