Hi,

I'm looking for a Detroit 2-71 starter. It's a Delco Remy part number 1109114 1879. Engine is on an Hd5 1949 dozer. The old starter can not be rebuild because parts are discontinued since 2001. On mine the rotor is grounded and brushes are worned out. I would consider buying a non working starter with a good rotor in it. Brushes I could make a set of a different starter. Any idea are welcome. Thank you in advance.

Get a hold of gemdozer who posts here has used parts business right near you. Look at the posts in the construction equipment page and his name will come up often as has given a lot of information.

I finally found one with gemdozer. I'm not taking chances. I will have this working one rebuilded at half price of my original.
Thank you for your support.

Hello, I have what I think is same starter. Have searched high and low as mine is totally shot. I even bought two 39mt starters, one with 11 teeth but proper pinion diameter. The other 12 tooth but much too small. Mine is 2.25 inches in diameter and 12 tooth. I was able to take one back and tried to find a pinion for the other with no luck. My tractor has a plate that says tractor motive ts 5 with 271 detroit.i think year is 1950.does any 42 mt or 39 mt come with that size pinion? I talked to a Delco Remy engineer and he wasn't able to help. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks
