8070 with a 540 pto

They make mowers that large with 540 pto?  I thought they were all 1000 when they got that big.  1000rpm allowed the companies to transmit more power without up sizing the shafting very much, similar idea to using 240 volt compared to 120 volt. 


 I wouldn't mow when the ground is damp, depending on the circumstances, compaction from the heavy tractor would be greater. 

Other than that, no other issues I can think of. Neighbor runs one that size with a 7230 JD, but a 1000 rpm.  and does well with it.  

I've been using 7060's and my 8050 fwa for years on 15' bat wings. They make a good combination. The batwings I have had were 1000 rpm gear boxes, the one I have now has a main gearbox rated at 180 hp.  I even mow road ditches with mine as it's safer and faster than a 7' 3pt mower behind a smaller tractor. I usually leave the duals on mine. Keep the slip clutches tight and you can walk thru anything. I don't know if your 8070 has a dual PTO, if not you'll need an adapter to the smaller diameter 1000 rpm pto. I don't think you would want to run a 540 rpm mower as you would need to run the tractor at low rpms or you will tear up the gearbox. If you have 540 mower I would suggest you trade up.
