 Topic: Painting a 5040 on the quick, worth it?

I have a decent 76 AC 5040 with a Bushhog FEL on it. It runs great, but does not get a lot of use as I keep it at my cabin in Northern Michigan. It's sits outside, covered by a tarp in the winter. I am thinking about hitting it with a quick paint job to help protect it. Would degrease it, wire wheel the rust and paint with a brush. Not for show, but just to protect. Do you guys think this would be worth it to protect it, or would I kill future value, although I am not sure what it's worth being it's an import tractor. It runs great and has more power then I need. FEL is very useful.
eta a few pics of the old girl, the new paint on the grill is cause it got ran over and the fiberglass shattered, so I epoxied the puzzle pieces back together and then had to paint it.

OK.... How many coins will you spend cleaning it up and painting it, and time ? Now, price out some 2by4s and plywood and tin to make a basic 'shed' for the tractor. I made 9by12 sheds for my D-14 for $500..3-4-5 years ago. I can make them in 2 'lazy' days. It might be an option ???

from what you can see, its a good looking tractor... might be worth wire brushing the rear rims and repainting to keep them GOOD.

I agree, clean up the wheels and paint them but the sheet metal looks pretty good. You would be surprised how some rubbing compound and wax will bring the hood and fenders back. Good idea about the inexpensive shed.

yeah rub com and wax would go a LONG way yo keeping it purdy !! Friend up north would put vaseline on all the chrome of his wagoneer..bumpers were cherry even though 20 years old....back then bumper WERE chrome plated...sigh, the World's changed a lot sine then

Painting it would be a waste of money and time. Looks fine the way it is. Just keep covering it when not in use.

I gave, I believe, $129 for and 8 x 10 hoop shed at Menard's. My D14 fits in it, a little tight but fits. It has a FEL. I back it in and roll the door down on the bucket and weigh it down with a couple blocks. I'm real happy with the results. I put it up in one day by myself. Hardest part was augering in the anchors.

I have nothing to add, but is that grill available anywhere? we have a 5045 and it's gone. seems they have some goofy grill available that looks nothing like that one
