Hi. Has anyone out there swapped a 301 or it’s 200ci little brother into a pickup? I read about one being done a while ago in a magazine and was thinking about giving it a try with a 79 3/4 ton square body chevy. If anyone out there has done either, I was just wondering if they were happy with the results and it was worth the work. Thanks in advance for any replies!

Yeah, the biggest thing it would probably pull is a 16 foot skid steer trailer and that would only be occasionally. I would love to use it for a summer/ fall truck to drive to work during the week. The other option I was thinking of was a 4bt Cummins, I was just thinking the base engine with the allis might be a little cheaper, and that’s a factor considering all the other work that needs to be done.

I think you would want a 301 from a 7020 with the better cooling for use in a pickup

Memory says about 1700 lbs. These may be genset numbers with a radiator. I'd have to look at home to try and verify that. They are heavier than a modern engine like the B-series Cummins for sure.
******** Looked in another place last night and a bare 301 with turbo is 1005 lbs. A bare 426 with turbo is 1425 lbs. These both have SAE bell housings and flywheel, but no radiator or engine frame.

A young guy around here did a square body chevy With a 5.9 cummins. It a pretty nice truck. The thought of doing an allis is nice, but I would vote for a 5.9. If you are open to cummins anyway.

Yeah, the Cummins engine cost more initially, but with all the aftermarket parts available for them for installs, it would probably cost less in the long run to do the Cummins.
