 Topic: WD45 with loader - front wheels?

I need new front wheels for my WD45. The tractor has a Henry front loader on it. Both stock wheels are cracked, one very badly. I think this is a combination of missing and incorrect lug bolts, but it may just be too much for the wheels too. I would like to buy replacements, but all the 5-lug wheels I see for sale specifically note "not for use with a loader". So...question one, does someone sell a 5 lug wheel suitable for loader use? Or question two, if not, is there a 6 lug hub conversion I can do to use a stouter front wheel?

One way to get 6 bolt hubs would to be to use late unstyled WC hubs. They are a direct fit. Early D17 hubs are the same as yours with 5 bolts, but later D17s also used a 6 bolt hub...but I don't know if they are a direct swap to your spindles. Kip

Just found these, they are wider but the centers look about the same so I'm not sure if that would make a difference or not.

Sploke, The new wheels in the link look good. They would probably last another life time too. You dont think the old ones can be repaired? Wider rim with wider tires would spread the load. That is what my friend Gary has on his WD45 loader tractor. We never had any special rims on our loader tractor but it was the small trip bucket. So the weight might have been a lot less too. We did go through a lot of wheel bearings! Regards, Chris

I think a LOT of stress is put on rims by trying to turn while not moving. My D14 with full loader has 2 new front rims,now,$$$. Always find it easier to turn while in motion.

I thought about trying to weld them up, but one of them has three or four cracks spiderwebbing out from the lug bolt holes, one of which has spread to about 1/4" wide. The thing clicks alarmingly when I drive it, I think it's about ready to fail catastrophically at any moment so I haven't been moving the tractor.
Good call on the bearings though, I should pull them out and take a look when I have the wheels off, if nothing else to clean and repack them.

Yeah, its definitely easier to turn once in motion. I'm also ditching the tri-ribs in favor of something with more flotation to them so hopefully that will take some of the stress off as well. Good advice!

Slpoke, Yes, you need new rims. I dont think I would try to save them, and I try to save every thing!:) Pictures might be good for others to take a look at their loader rims too. Sounds unsafe at any speed. Not fun if it collapses while moving. Regards, Chris

Just gave Tony a call and got a set of his heavy duty wheels on order. They look like just what I need for this machine, without going through the additional hassle of changing out hubs.
