Shirley"Cha Cha " Muldowney,Connie Kaleta,Don "The Snake" Prudhome,Don Garlits and Pro Stocker Grumpy Jenkins. Jungle Jim and Jungle Pam but the best memory of all was EJ Potter The Michigan Madman! EJ raced his mother's Dodge Dart Station Wagon from the rear because he installed a V12 Allison Aircraft Engine in the front!

Yeah,,them was the good old days of drag racing,,,!!! My hero was Dickie Harrell from Carlsbad, just down the road from us. Everybody started calling him, "Mr Chevrolet" in the 70's because he could flat make them Chevies run like nobody else.. I remember when he had his car impounded at Lion's Dragstrip in California,,,cause the officials just KNEW he was cheating when he broke the strip records,,,yet they couldn't find anything wrong in the engine,,! He used to use a machine shop in Artesia do ALL his secret machining. He was the ultimate public relations person. Years later, he suffered a fatal crash in a Funny Car up in Canada

EJ Potter was the first to get a V12 Allison into the 5000 pound modified class, back when there was no extra weigh allowance for the safety equipment. his tractor did not have a clutch, just an in-out box. They pushed him back to the sled with the engine off, rolled him forward a bit, then he would start the motor and go, killing the motor at the finish.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits. If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY |
