Hello. I am looking at purchasing a Allis Chalmers D17 with a cab and was wondering if the cab was a factory option and could it be removed? I want just the tractor but don’t want the cab on it. Are the tractors with cabs the same as the ones without? Are the cabs a rare option? Thanks for your time

Cabs are all aftermarket on them. Take it off and put on some fenders.

True.  D17s never came with cabs.  They are not worth much.

Would probably seem worth a lot more in the winter when spreading manure or plowing snow than in the summer making hay.

This has been on my local craigslist for a long time.

As others have stated, the old after market cab has little monetary value.

A set of new fenders are available but not exactly cheap. Not sure if the original foot plates/boards are still there not.....It is missing one side panelunder the gas tank......You might want to take note of exactly everything it would take to put it back to original. It all adds up and may exceed the value of buying a D17 that is still all intact.

If the tire and rims are in fair shape, if it's mechanically sound and not a gear jumper.....I personally would not go too much more than 3500 for just the tractor....

What it does have going for it is that it is a series 4 with a factory 3 point....but still....if refurbishing it back to original is your goal, it could add up in a hurry

It looks like Factory correct D17 IV gas tractors with 3 point hitch, in straight, mechanically sound condition (not mint restored) are currently averaging in the 5k range.......

I have a cab on my 170. In the summer I pop the doors off and open all windows including windshield and back window. Everything goes back on in the winter and is great when in is cold and especially windy. I like having cabs on all mine, 170,180 and 190.

I actually like the cab on it. Do not see many D17's with a cab.
