I have an Allis 6140. The Japanese Engine. Yesterday I moved bales with it for over an hour, it ran normal operating temperature entire time. This morning I ran it for about 10 minutes and temp gauge spiked and steam came out of the over flow line. This is becoming common. I have blown out and washed the radiator, let the engine run with radiator cap off to remove any air in the lines, coolant level stays the same, no white smoke out of the exhaust and engine oil is normal. Could it be a bad radiator cap? It just has me baffled.

My first guess would be sticking thermostat.  id start there if you have already cleaned radiator.

I agree on thermostat, if only took ten minutes I would say no water circulation because of thermostat. Leon

Yup thermostat
I support the development of hybrid automobiles and alternative fuels as I need DIESEL fuel for my ALLIS CHALMERS!
