putting a new belt on mower, C tractor. The belt going forward from the left idler seems to have more twists in it than it should. 1/4 twist coming back from right side of mower, 1/2 twist coming down to left idler. New belt from dealer, WOW, don't want to wreck it.
Is that what getting old is? Simple things become complicated? |

Lots of twists in the belt. You can download the manual (has pics of belt routing) from the Woods website.

I think that the twists that you talk about are correct. It's not real difficult, but it sure helps to have the diagram and a picture of it. Good luck with it.

It’s frustrating to adjust but when you get it correct it works very well. Quite a few twist. Can get you a picture next time the CA is outside, that is when it finally stops raining. Calling for it the next 10 days here.

So who makes the best belt for these mowers? In searching old posts on here, I've seen "JD dealers usually have them in stock" , "only use woods belts", "my woods dealer recommended brand X", etc.
Lord knows what you are getting when you google it and order it from Amazon or something.

I use Napa B255 on my Ca w/L306--a little longer, works better and cheaper. It allows you to move the deck forward a few holes.

Is there an advantage to having the deck forward?

Clearance for belt assembly, and slightly longer for the twisted length should help reduce heat in the belt.

Well, I snapped some pictures for my own future reference, but I thought maybe others could benefit from them as well.
The belt makes a 1/2 turn from the left idler up to the drive pulley, 3/4 twist from the top groove of the center spindle to the left idler, and a 1/4 turn from the right idler to the bottom groove of the center spindle. Hope this helps. |
