Maybe I've been too quick to judge the younger generation lately, probably because of all the negative stuff the media puts out. (OK, that's a lame excuse). But the other day I was at a restaurant, and in the booth behind me was a young man, about 18 to 20 years old. Probably because of his hair doo, my first impression was: "Now there's a worthless bastard." Sitting at the table beside me, was an elderly couple; wife had a walker. After a while, the older couple was getting up to leave. The wife with the walker made a couple un-successful attempts at getting out of her chair, and her husband wasn't exactly in any shape to help her, either. So while I am sitting there like a dumb ass, thinking to myself that maybe I should offer to help her, the young "worthless bastard" jumps up, goes over to her, puts his arm on her shoulder and says, "ma'am, can I help you up"? Man I felt like crawling in a hole. Guess he was a better man than me. Darrel

The thing is it was a lesson in humility for you and a change of mind moment !
For if you had jumped up and helped - you would still be feeling that negative attitude on youth, but FATE opened your mind and eyes . there are good and great people there in this world .
The problem is the A holes and jerks seem to overshadow the good and great individuals and their selfless giving of help and praise they give to others .

Yup. The school shooters make the headlines. This nice young man gets a little blurb on the forum here for doing a good deed. Darrel

Next time you should go thank him and shake his hand. Make him feel good for a deed well done

A friend and I were having a conversation about the youth of the world and how screwed up the world will be in the future. Then I remember a conversation my grandfather had with a neighbor when I was a youngin. I think it was the same conversation word for word.

Darrel, just think, if you had jumped up and gone over first, the young man could have just sat there and continued in his own world... but I see he was being observant of others.
... an he might have thought about that old 52 year old sitting there could have gotten up and helped, but he would instead... maybe someday he might have to help that younger old man too.....
 Kudos to the young man.

There are still good kids out there that have been raised right by their parents but it is the Tide pod eaters and glue sniffers that get the media coverage because it fits their agenda. And many times you can't judge a person by their appearance. That's one of the lessons Christ taught us in the Bible.

And Darrel, all that humble pie I have eaten over the years didn't taste very good but it was probably good for me.
Just an old country boy saved by the grace of God.

I'd have to say there are a lot more good youths out there then there are nasty ones.  Sometimes it just takes a person a while to do the right thing.  You've had your humble pie, Darrel, time to move on with the lesson learned.
