Anyone have any old John Deere snowmobiles?

Hi guys! I'm looking for parts for a John Deere liquifire snowmobile. Parts from a John Deere cyclone snowmobile may work also. Let me know if you have one of these old gems sitting around! Be kind....I know I'm asking about that "other" green company!

Yes Darrel, we do. Still about 2 ft in most places. More where it drifted or didn't blow. Supposed to be in the low 40s the rest of this week so it should start disappearing. We got another 6 inches of really wet snow last Friday and Saturday. It was basically slush. So far we've had about 53 or 54 inches of snow here for the winter. I've never seen this much snow here in my lifetime. We're thankful for the much needed moisture!

I'm needing a stator for a 76-77 liquifire or cyclone with the kiortz engine.

Yeah way back in th3e 80's when I lived in AK, The stator went belly up on my liquifire.  I found one with a dusted motor in it in Anchorage.  Stuck the used stator on my sled and threw the remains in the landfill.  It ran like a beast.

Only trouble I had was with the antique track and the bolt on cleats coming lose.

Good luck in finding the needle in the hay stack.

go on to vintage sleds.com thats the other forum website that i get on every thing is on there and they have a very good classified and alot of good tech. as i like the old sno-jets

I feel your pain on the loose track cleats. This is the second track on this one. First one had the full width cleats. This one has the 2/3rd staggered cleats and seems to be holding up a lot better. Also, I'm finding that the stator is the kiortz engines weak link. Everywhere I've called says they were known to go bad. Apparently the flywheel had weak magnets so the stator had to have many turns of wire. To get the required number of turns of wire it had to be thin as a hair to fit on the poles. Add that with something that is 40 years old, is exposed to high humidity, and the occasional mouse wee wee. No wonder they go bad. I guess all things must come to an end. I might have to retire the old girl. I hate to as the newer sleds just aren't good for day in day out work on a ranch. The new sleds go fast but aren't good for crawling around slow or pulling a heavy sled. I've got a newer arctic cat that is really nice to ride to get from point A to B, but just doesn't pull like the old john Deere. It will do it for awhile, but $80 belts get expensive. The old liquifire will pull a load all day long and not wear out a belt. It's geared low. But it will still get up and go if you need it too. It might not go 80 but 50 will still easily catch a coyote. Enough of my ranting.

Ben, guess we don't have a fraction as much snow as you do. What we have had, has mostly been pretty dry, up until just the other day here. Got about 4 inches of wet heavy stuff. It's melting, but most of it's running off. Our sub soil moisture is non-existent. It's going to take some rain if we are going to get any hay or crops this year. We do occasionally get that two feet of wet heavy snow in April or May storm, that has helped in the past. Maybe we get one of them this year. Darrel

Glad you didn't get washed down the river, Ben. How close is your place to the river? The Powder does kind of have a reputation for either being dry, or flooding, and not much in between, not....? Maybe you ought to write up a thank you note for Shameless, thanking him for all the snow you got, put it in a bottle and throw it in the river. See if Shameless finds it in the Missouri in a few years. LOL! Darrel

Well, Ben. Calving isn't going as good as I would like it to. Death loss hasn't been teribble, but still worse than I like it to be. Ever have them calves that just plain act like "they are too stupid to live?" Had a couple of them. Had a couple that got trampled in the barn, which really upset me because each time there were only two pair in the barn, and we had put them in the barn to ensure that they had every opportunity to live. Should have left em outside. Weather has been tolerable, however that may change today. Wet heavy snow started falling about 5:30 this morning, and we probably have about 3 inches already. Could get up to a foot. I would imagine that you put calving season when snow should be a thing of the past for the year, not. .? Darrel
