   How long should it take to rebuild a CA engine, complete kit supplied.A friend of mine rebuilt my motor, and does not have an idea what to charge me for labour.
I want to be fair.
I supplied all the parts.

	There are a lot of variables to "engine rebuilding". If you paid for line boring the block and resizing the rods at a machine shop, he could save a LOT of time putting new bearings in without having to mess with shims. Proper fitting of new valve guides , grinding and lapping doesn't pay too well for somebody without the proper equipment. Heck, even cleaning the block up once torn down can be a real time consuming job, depending on what you start with. When I did the WC I gave up on conventional cleaning ideas and put the whole thing in a barrel of water for electrolysis. It came about as clean as baking and shot peening, but took 2 weeks of cleaning electrodes, skimming the water off and turning the block over and in different positions every day or so. 	What CTucker said. Give me a complete engine with all parts cleaned and sized and I could probably assemble it in under a day. Of course I'd need a ring compressor, torque wrench and a few other specialty tools that would need a small portion of their cost billed against this job. What's the Chilton rate today? $90 an hour? It's really hard to know what a fair price is.

	I learned rebuilding my WD45 what the experienced guys on here already know. It's fast to just assemble, but if you actually want to take time to measure all your bearing clearances for safety, measure sleeve standout, gap the rings, and really be careful, it takes a lot longer. Take a novice or someone not familiar with these motors and add even some more time.

	I had a friend who was a real jerk when he assembled my engine for the WD45. I paid for all the machine work and all the parts and he assembled it and he had the nerve to not want anything in return and would not give me a price. Since the work was done at his fathers garage I bought his dad a new tap and die set for the use of his facilities.

	Most shops that overhaul engines for a living would hard not to give you a quote under 2000.00. If the fellow wants to have some spending money for his time you might subtract the parts from the 2000.00 and give him a portion of the difference if not all. Kinda late to make a deal! What ever makes the fellow happy is the best way at this point.
