Have allischalmers H 4 crawler loader. Loosing type a transmission fluid. Not sure where it going. Possibly a seal, however the transmission oil shows no red color.   Also can anything except type A transmission fluid be used in the convertor . Any one in southern ind area, northern Kentucky, or eastern Ill doing work on the smaller dozers with this convertor? Have been told allis had update bulletin's on this machine Thanks Bill Wilson   812 699 0011

I have an hd4 dozer, and I put a gallon in the convertor housing every two days of running it. I have had it on blocks with the belly pans off, high pressure washed everything and ran it but still cannot find where the leak is. I sometimes add a gallon of 10 weight hydraulic oil if I have ran out of type a. I believe I have a small hairline crack in the back housing.

thinking of using 303 hydraulic oil. if you had no problems with other oil 303 should work. sure seems hard to find leak.

I have the belly pan off now and will run for a couple of hours this spring and then tram up on blocks to try to find the leak. I have a spare hd4 loader for parts but sure hope I do not need to change convertor tubes out. big time work.  If I were you I would look close at the hose connections at the sump side of convertor and bottom at back end where plug with o-ring is located.

Trying to remember oil schooling, ya they do try to teach you something when you sell oil. Type a tranny fluid has additives in it to make clutches grab together and hold better than other types of fluid. I dont think universal fluid or 303 have these additives in them. Someone with current knowledge please post back. I don't know what is in a torque converter, but if that is the recommended stuff I'd sure stick with it.
