3 point hitch question

i have a d14 with a three point hitch on it and i am having problems lifting up mower and plow high enough of the ground. with no attachments and if i lower the hitch all the way down the lift arms will hit the ground but when i put my brush hog on i can only lift it up about 6 inches. my side links ar 20 inches long. by looking at it i would need either shorter side links or lower the upper lift arms and moving them down one tooth on the spline to get more lift. does anybody have ideas what would be the best course of action.

 Best course of action would NOT be to change the lift arm spline location. Shorten the lift chains first....shorten the top link length second (if you can).....raise the top link attachment point on the mower third (if you can)...lower the top link attachment point on the tractor fourth (if you can).

i dont have lift chains i have threaded side links. does anybody know where i can get very short side links for my tractor

You wouldn't want to lower the upper arms, that would make it lift less. You would need to raise the upper arms to make it lift more. Do you know any history of the tractor. Maybe somebody lowered the lift arms in an earlier life for some reason.

dont know the history of the tractor. is there a base line measurement i could check in the highest position. for example if i measure from the pto shaft to the top of the snap coupler latches what should i have.

my B has a 3 point. I use a dirt scoop , blade and bucket. the lift pin locations vary several inches between the equipment. I use lift chains on each side, not fixed lenght bars. I use a clevis at the top end to attach the chain to the lift arms. I can shorten the chain a couple lengths when neede for more lift... pins on the blade are probably 15 inches off the ground. pins on the bucket are 4 inches off the ground..
Like them all, but love the "B"s.
