Nasty Surprise During Routine Oil Change

   Greetings,

This is my first post here, even though I've been a long time lurker.  I'm the owner of a 1950 Model B and am amazed at how popular these little guys continue to be and the wealth of info there is here on them.  I see quite a few of them here in west TN.

Did what I thought was going to be a routine engine oil change today - removed drain plug - to my surprise just a dribble of oil, even though dipstick read full - gently probe into the drain hole with the tip of a screwdriver, feel something metal move, and then oil comes pouring out.  Whatever it was was just laying across the drain hole blocking it, so I let the oil completely drain and got out a flashlight and a mirror to see if I could get a better idea of what was rattling around loose in the bottom of the oil pan.  As best I can tell it looks like a large flat circular thing, maybe a flat washer, about an inch in diameter. 

Any ideas from the experts on what this is likely to be?  I figure I should pull the pan (I'm assuming I can do this without shifting the engine around) and find out, or should I just leave well enough alone?  Tractor sounds fine with no obvious signs of distress.

	Perhaps the sump screen?

	If I recall, when I changed the oil pan seal on my 45B I think I had to remove the front end. The front end of the pan was in between the block and bolster for the front end. Still not too bad a project, if I remember.

	First, Welcome to the site and second great that you have my favorate - the B. As to what blocked your drain I would think it would be the oil pump screen. I cannot think of anything else that is round and would block the drain. Guess you had better drop the pan to check in out. Can't have anything going wrong with my favorate. Take good care. 	Thanks guys. Got the gasket ordered, will post when I find out what the hidden treasure is lying in the bottom ... since it seems to be running fine I'll probably use it tomorrow to haul up a trailer that needs to be moved. Bill

	Welcome to this site, the more the merrier! Maybe previous owner had the pan off and dropped a magnet in it like some tranny pans have? Or just an evil sence of humor.
