I notice that Cub Cadet is part of Yanmar or maybe vice versa. Anyone know what the deal is. Seems like MTD had bought Cub Cadet from IHC. I wonder if this is a way Yanmar got around the non compete agreement with John Deere.

Cub Cadet is owned by MTD. 3 years ago, they contracted with Yanmar to build compact diesel tractors. The black and yellow tractors are a joint venture and wear Cub/Yanmar badges. Cub no longer manufactures the 5000, 6000 or 7000 series models (as they were called). Cub Cadet lawn and garden tractors are manufactured her in the US by MTD, and have been for years. Yanmar has only supplied the smallest compacts for Deere, and has been a supplier of the smaller Deere diesel engines. They also have a joint venture with together in Charlotte, NC called TMA (Transaxle Manufacturing of America) and build transaxles for Gator UTV's. Tuff Torq Corporation (garden tractor transaxle manufacturer) is owned by Kanzaki, and Yanmar is a major share holder in Kanzaki. It's kind of like a family tree without branches!!!

Thanks for the info Cork and ACJohn, I knew MTD had bought CC but wondered how Yanmar got involved. I've heard conflicting reports of the quality of the MTD made Cub Cadets, any thoughts?
