Hi guys I'm looking at a block with stuck pistons and a good crank
I want to rebuild it so I don't have to disable the tractor until it's ready. What I would like to know is what do you think I should offer for it? He says that the block is good but the sleeves and pistons are rusted in place. I would like your advice thanks all. |

If the block is not cracked anywhere it could be worth $150/$200. You cannot tell if the block is not cracked until you pull the sleeves to look at the bottom webs. I went threw 3 blocks before I found one that was not cracked on the bottom. I made the mistake of assuming the blocks where good before I removed the sleeves. If you want to take the risk offer him $100. If the crankshaft is good, it will be worth that.

I'd make a deal with the owner you will strip the block down and have it checked before paying for it, then you are not paying for a bad block. I don't buy blocks without making the deal of pay after it's checked out or pay for it with a deal of refund if it's not good.
I have a pile of junk blocks now. lol Edited by Don(MO) - 27 Jul 2016 at 8:14am |

I carry a piece of rough emery cloth with me. If it isn't cracked on the top between sleeves, I doubt very much that its cracked on the bottom. Not to say it can't be, but I've never seen that scenario. I bought one just like what you're looking at a year ago for $75....as-is... my risk. Block and crank were very nice and had a lot of parts left over.

Perhaps you should ignore my response. It doesn't seem to be worth even 2 cents to some people.

I certainly did not mean to slight Alex or anyone else. I apologize if I implied that. I was trying to point out that he had responses from several of the most respected posters on the forum.
