Is it a new internally regulated delco or an old original externally regulated one. An original will have a regulator under the hump just foward of the steering wheel. When you look at the alternator the plug will be two parallel spades in the plug. A new one will have two spades in line with each other. The new one will require rewriting to provide a sense line to activate it to charge and disconnect the regulator under the hump.
