Just got a 170 gas and filled it up to plant and gas leaks out of the carb after shut off. This may be a dumb question but why does it do that? Is there something wrong with carb or what? Thanks Kurt

you probably have either a bad float or something lodged in the hole preventing the needle from shutting off the flow

Not a dumb question at all. Could be a handful of reasons why its doing that. Since you filled it up, if its a warm day and the sun is beating on the gas tank, pressure can build in the system putting extra pressure on the needle valve and allowing fuel to enter the fuel bowl pushing the fuel level up. Doesn't take much. An inoperable vented cap could also cause the problem. A piece of debris lodged in the needle valve like mentioned either from the fuel tank or from the fuel system. A plugged vent hole in the Carburetor will do it everytime also. There's a few things there to check for starters... HTH

You can sometimes spend much time in trying to get it to stop you can just shut off the gas at the end of the day. The shutoff is hard to get to on the One Seventy and what I did was install a small fuel shutoff valve in line just befor the carb. Not correct to some but it resolved the issue easily for me.
