I just bought my first tractor to play around with (brush hog and work on food plots really) which is a D17 Series 1. So a week later I find this 2 bottom plow on Craigslist and travel 2 hours to buy it for $130. Didn't have a clue what I was buying but now after researching a little here I find I might need to take out my PTO shaft before using and also secure a chain from the tongue to the snap coupler in case the coupler comes loose....
Looks like someone did a pretty good job of converting it to a snap coupler system and do you think the tongue is long enough to where I don't have to disconnect the PTO? I haven't hooked it to my tractor as the tractor isn't operational while I tune some things up. The guy I bought it from said it came with his restored D15 when he bought it about a year ago and just doesn't have any need for the plow and was selling it to have money to buy a blade for the D15 for winter. Looks to be 16.5 inches between the plows. Do you think the plow will work? What do you guys think? Thanks, |

Measure across the top of the beams!---bet its 14"!---- I certainly would NOT trust that hitch to snap coupler eye without doing some serious re-man work on it--- Why??? its too open for my taste! also check them welds on that flat plate, first two look broke to me ---I am sure it will work ok. ---2 bottoms just not a load for 45.---it also does not have side bars or chains to hold the thing to the right side, so its gonna just run all over behind the tractor and not do a decent job. You need to spend a half day on them bottoms to get all the rust off down to smooth clean metal so dirt will slide off and turn over. That right hand crank don't have much adjustment, so depending on your rear tire size that will present a problem getting the front bottom to hold depth. My snap coupler 3 bottom on my 45 is super picky about all this stuff! 45 was made as 4-bottom semi-mount plow tractor,---I have one of them too! LOL!---also the snap coupler to 3-point adapter to pull the 4- bottom with a 45! My 3 bottom is still hitched to one of my 45's right outside the kitchen door!!---just got done with the gardens, and haven't taken it off yet! Your plow should work after you get all the bugs out of it, it wont do real well on a 45,--looks to be made for a B or C! thanks; ac fleet

That plow was originally made for the WD tractors and was called a "WD Pick-Up Plow" AS mentioned above if you can get it adjusted to run behind your tractor, it will do fine. The chains that are mentioned are not to make the plow run straight they are to minimize the sway when it's raised. if a plow won't pull straight, either the landslides are worn out or it's bent. My concern would be that the conversion din not change the top connections and if for any reason the snap couple came unhooked it would hit you in the back before you know it.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits. If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY |

It looks unsafe as shown. I would rework the loop and remove the slide on lift connections and change them to work with the latches on the lift arms. The lifting rods were changed on later plows to have adjustment so you can get both plows to run at the same depth.
Originally the tractor drawbar slid into the double bars where the loop is welded. As stated it was designed for the early WD. LOL Bob |

It would be easier and probably cheaper to get another plow with the proper snap coupler setup than to convert this one.

Do I have a deal for you! I'm selling mine due to lack of room and can't pay store fees. Here is the link to the add I posted a while back, call me at 708-275-6820 and you will be rolling for $125.00 and have all the right couplers. I am selling this for what I paid for it, no up no extras. Here is the link to my ad on the AC site.
Posted: 04 Oct 2015 at 11:14am I bought this at an auction a year ago, I have not had a chance to plow with it. My children need more room in the garage and work gives me less time for my hobby. I am asking $125.00 for this AC Snap Coupler 2 - 14 Bottom Plow. Give me a call at 708-275-6820 or pm me.

I'll agree with the "It looks unsafe as it is" statement.
Speaking as someone that had a plow come loose from the Snap Coupler, I would never stick that in the ground with out having links that use the breakaway lift latches. Those plows come up behind you in a hurry, and it isn't fun trying to hit the foot clutch, hand clutch, throttle and brakes all at once before you get killed. With all that said, going by the way my WD pulls a 3-14, I think a D17 would almost pull a two bottom plow in road gear. Robert |

I have some plows here, 3 bottom might be 16 inch with concave coulters . $165. Works on D17 with snap couplers on lift arms. Also have the couplers available $100.

Why not cut the homemade end off and use it as it was intended?

Yep, Just run a safety chain under the drawbar so the plow can't flip if the SC drawbar happens to break free and use the lift links as they are without lift latches. |

Just find a snap coupler drawbar and use it without the support bail. Also that plow is set at 16". The right had beam would be bolted to the other side of the plate for a 14" cut.

Most problems can be solved with the proper application of high explosives.
