We're thinking of buying this 945 loader. Actually a 945B, 1975 vintage looks like. Anybody on here familiar with or been around one of these? Bigger than we need, but hate to see it go to scrap.

That machine will do some serious work. I saw one a few years ago, a little newer I believe. It had a big Cummins engine...appeared original but I don't know if that's how they made them in the 80's? Cummins parts would at least be easy to find.

Yes, parts book shows optional Cummins engine, not sure when that became available. I know many have been re-powered with Cummins as well, this one still has the Allis engine.

the 945B was made in Deerfield Illinois. It has a straight 6 cylinder 844 cubic inch engine... model was a 25000 .... which ment turbo and aftercooler. I know that Allis did not build the transmissions and axles.. They bought them from Twin Disc , Rockwell, and others depending on the years. If its a good buy depends entirely on the condition.

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

Yeah, Allison transmission, but apparently AC built the axles. Owner says he parked it a year ago because the torque was overheating. Tried to crank it over this summer but engine was stuck. I doubt it would be seized from sitting only a year. Cosmetically it is in pretty good condition. Also thinking of a 605B with a blown engine for a project. Yes Mac, my wife has been very understanding in the past but that could change...

As for scrapping the 945, I think it has more to do with a certain aesthetic- some guys just don't like old equipment sitting around on their yards... weird, huh?

I always said if i bought some acreage, I'd put old equipment that was cheap and didn't work anymore here and there off the driveway as landscape pieces along the woodline!!

They turn 45 degrees left and right, do not have the Z bar linkage. I had Caterpillar at the time, but everyone else had an Allis loader they used. A few engines failed, but they all will do that when not cared for. I understand that a loader is now being manufactured in Sweden that is a dead ringer to these machines. Somone else must think the design was sound also. |

Thanks CAL for turning it into a live link! I guess I don't have a good excuse for not learning the trick. I have to hide behind the old saying "it's hard to teach old dogs new tricks"

I see they are using Sisu engines, which, I believe is owned by AGCO, so they are almost an Allis loader again!
