Does the automatic mode work with auger going out and when it folds in? Is it controlled by the roller switch on the housing and the lever switch on the cradle? The auger has tried to turn on before it was fully out and I'm thinking it's one of the switches?

What do you mean by the auger has tried to start before its out? The automatic mode is just for swinging the auger out and in. You have to press the switch for the auger to start(assuming it has the electric/hydraulic control). If the auger is starting before its out either the roller switch is misadjusted or is bad. The roller switch on the swivel is what controls when the auger can come on. The switch on the cradle is just for the auger out light.

Ok, I'm betting the roller switch is my culprit

on my L3 the auger swing is separate from the unload switch, if you leave the auger running when swinging back in the micro switch shuts off the auger, I never started unloading until fully swung out and always tried to shut auger off before swinging in

Wait... so on some combines when you push the switch for the auger out, when it gets out the auger automatically engages?

No. Auger only turn on when you push the unload switch. If it comes on by it's self, you have a wiring problem. The limit switch keeps you from turning it on until the auger is out. MACK
